New Year’s Eve OTP

The age-old debate: do you go out for New Year’s Eve or stay in? Getting a babysitter, fighting the crowds and designating a driver may be some of the issues you need to overcome. With the recent expansion of Uber OTP, that may relieve one concern, but for others, going out is daunting — so getting together with close friends and family is a great option.

No matter where you sing Auld Lang Syne, review your resolutions or watch the ball drop on TV, New Year’s Eve is about trying to make it up to midnight! Here are some suggestions whether you stay in or go out.

NewYearsEve1For the first time, The Marietta Square will ring in the New Year with two celebrations. Visitors will enjoy live music from Whiskey Gentry on the Bandstand in Glover Park, ice sculpting and family festivities throughout the day. The smallest visitors will be included in the fun with a special Children’s Chick-Fil-A Cow Drop at 7pm. Visitors without a curfew will stay out late for a one-of-a-kind, Midnight Square Drop in the heart of The Marietta Square. Local restaurants and venues will stay open late and live entertainment will continue throughout the night. There is also a new outdoor ice skating rink for families to enjoy.

Some other ideas for adults include visiting Alpharetta’s Avalon to grab a bite in one of their many restaurants, ice-skate or see movie in their luxury Regal theater. Or, tie in movie and dinner at Roswell’s Movie Tavern.

New-Years-PackageFor children, Stars and Strikes is planning a “Noon Year’s Eve” event this year that parents will love because the kids celebrate but don’t have to stay up so late! They will have balloons filled with prizes, so when they pop them they can win games of bowling, game cards and more.

If you head ITP, Fernbank Museum & Legoland also have interesting Noon Day events.  For fireworks and snowfall that will delight kids of any age, Stone Mountain has an early New Year’s Eve at 9pm.

There are so many restaurants having New Year’s Eve events it’s almost impossible to list, but we know for sure you can check out in Roswell, the newly opened Houck’s Grill with a throwback bash and live music and The Mill Kitchen & Bar with seatings at 5, 7 and 9 and no cover for dancing with live music and balloon drop starting at 10:30.

Also, Milton’s Cuisine & Cocktails has a $65 pre-fixed menu and live music, Woodstock’s Reel Seafood has a surf & turf menu, champagne toast and live music and you know the rooftops at PURE will be rocking too! Many of these restaurants require reservations, so make sure you call.

If you love Dancing with the Stars, you can catch their 90 minute action packed live show at the Cobb Energy Center to put you in the mood for your own late night dance-offs!

If you are hosting a party, visit the Dollar Store for some inexpensive decorations. Look for 2016 stickers to dress up on your clear plastic or real glasses for toasting. This just adds a little fun to ring in the New Year! You can also create a little hangover kit of aspirin and Tums for your guests to take home if you throw a party. They may thank you later!

2011-year-resolution-400x400In fact, many people try to add something positive to their resolution like volunteer more or eat better verse removing a negative. This seems like a great way to look at life and start 2016. You can have a resolution board and help keep your friends on track.

So whether you watch the ball drop in your jammies eating pizza or you do a progressive dinner with friends, the hope of bringing in a healthier, wealthier, blessed New Year is the majority of everyone’s wishes. Starting fresh and new – even if just for one day you keep with your resolutions, is better than nothing!

Don’t forget to eat your collards and black eye peas for luck! We wish you a safe New Year’s Eve and a wonderful 2016.
