Sandy Springs resident and music legend, Kenny Rogers, will be retiring after a world tour in 2016. He announced that his next venture is going to be an entertainment theme park 40 miles north of Atlanta “on an island”. Now, we don’t have confirmation on the exact location, but a quick Mapquest search shows that it appears to be around Lake Lanier Islands.
Kenny World or KennyLand as it is now dubbed, will be similar to Dolly Parton’s Dollyworld, but more high-tech. They plan is to create a SXSW theme, where singers and songwriters will want to come. An avatar of Kenny will be on the stage. This information is from The Guardian article on December 21.
If you aren’t familiar with South by Southwest (SXSW), it is an annual set of film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States. It began in 1987, and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year. In 2011, the conference lasted for 10 days with SXSW Interactive lasting for 5 days, Music for 6 days, and film running concurrently for 9 days.
Kenny Rogers name was also linked to an upscale hotel as part of The Jacoby Group’s Atlanta Media Campus in Norcross, according to a November article by the Gwinnett Daily Post.
With the rise of movies filming in Atlanta, the Lakepoint sporting complex, the new Hunger Theme Park, and the relocation of the The Braves, it is no surprise that more attractions are looking OTP for expansion. Stay tuned to Scoop OTP as we watch our cities grow!
