Another Valentine’s Day is upon us! If you are in the blossoming stages of a relationship, by all means, go all out with the fancy romantic meal, flowers and chocolates. But for those of us in a different phase or just looking for something new, we found some great alternatives from the usual romantic dinner to try this year.
1. Couples Yoga
Friday, February 12th from 7-9 PM. All you need is love! Head to Ember Yoga in downtown Woodstock for a 2-hour yoga class. Class will be taught by owner Jeff and Victoria and will include couples poses while celebrating the boundless nature of love. At class conclusion, enjoy a reception with kombucha, champagne and chocolate. Must register in advance.
2. Outdoor Ice Skating in Canton
February 13 & 14th. Just for Valentine’s Day weekend, the city of Canton is bringing an outdoor skating rink to downtown. It’s true that Avalon, Atlantic Station and Marietta have had outdoor skating this winter, but a 2-day event in charming Canton is sure to be sweet. If you’re not a strong skater, enjoy a cocktail at Mancini’s or Downtown Kitchen first to boost your confidence.
3. Atlanta Lyric Theater
February 12th – 28th. If you’re into laughing and don’t mind seeing a little skin, “The Full Monty” is opening Friday night at the Atlanta Lyric Theater in Marietta. After you’re done, go right around the corner to Douceur de France for desserts that are almost too pretty to eat.
4. Wine & Chocolate Pairings
February 14th at 5pm. Take a road trip to beautiful Blue Ridge and head to the Vine Wine Bar and Bistro for a chocolate and wine pairing with chocolates from Chocolatasm. Make a day of it by getting there early and visiting the shops in quaint downtown.
5. Donate to a Local Charity
Maybe you’ve had enough wine-and-dining, and would rather do something lovely for others. There are several local charities that need help this time of year. As we approach a week off of school in some counties, local food banks will see a surge in the need for more food. Or, brighten a sick child’s day by sending them a gift from Forever We, a local non-profit that strives to reach every hospitalized child with cancer a doll.
Whatever you do this Valentine’s Day, remember it’s the thought that counts! And (speaking from experience here) if your sweetheart says “Don’t get me chocolate!” that almost always means “Please get me chocolate.” 😉 You’re welcome.
