Like just about every other red-blooded woman I know, I LOVE chocolate. So when our friends at Girltime asked us to join them for an outing to M Chocolat, I happily obliged. Any excuse to try chocolate, right?
Sisters Maritza and Marlena have always loved making chocolate, and had dreamed of being able to make it for others. In 2009, they finally took the plunge and fully submerged themselves in the world of chocolate. After two years of researching and learning every aspect of chocolate, along with some training from Barry Callebaut Chocolate Academy in Chicago, the sisters launched their business in Alpharetta.
Anxious to explain and describe their techniques, the sisters’ enthusiasm was evident the moment I entered their store. And this passion shows in each individual chocolate Maritza and Marlena create.
Their chocolates are an actual culinary experience. Flavors including Basil Mint, Peach Balsamic Cardamom, Pear Chardonnay, Rosemary Lemon, and ¡Caliente! Habeñero are just a few of the unique creations you will find in their store. And each flavor is vibrantly crafted using only the finest chocolate from Belgium; never preservatives or artificial ingredients.
If you’re looking for a more basic, traditional chocolate, the sisters offer a 
multitude of delicious milk and dark chocolate varieties as well. Caramels, truffles and toffees, too.
My favorite was their milk chocolate pretzel buckeye — a twist on the usual peanut butter buckeye, sandwiched between pretzels and covered in milk chocolate. We were fortunate enough to be with a large group, so we had our own private tasting (be jealous).
M Chocolat’s beautiful creations are perfect for wedding favors, gift baskets, corporate events and party trays. They are a unique alternative for dessert at your next dinner party. Or, you can do what I like to do — just pop into the store and buy a variety “to take home for my kids to try.” …Maybe the chocolates make it home, maybe they get sampled in the car. Hey, it’s the thought that counts!
