Mamma Onesta’s Italian Restaurant Opening in Canton

Update 7/13/17: Mamma Onesta’s is OPEN.

Mamma Onesta‘s Italian Restaurant, a family restaurant from the Chicago suburb Lockport, Illinois, is opening a second location in downtown Canton where Mancini’s’ Italian Restaurant was located.

We spoke to co-owner Frank DeGrassi, who explained that his best friend, Mario Buonauro, has always wanted to open an Italian restaurant and found the perfect spot in Canton. Currently, Buonauro runs a hot dog shop inside The Best Dang Bakery in Woodstock and has worked with DeGrassi in the past. With the DeGrassi restaurant model and family support, they are aiming for a June opening.

Mamma Onesta’s Italian Restaurant has been owned by the DeGrassi Family since 2008. Mamma Onesta means ‘honest mother’ in Italian. The Degrassi’s named the restaurant after Frank’s hard working, honest mother Erminia DeGrassi. Frank DeGrassi, his wife Mary and their 6 kids work in the restaurant. The family members will be coming down from Illinois to help Buonauro open the location, stating that downtown Canton has a very similar feel to their Lockport location.
