If you like any college football team, Big 10 team, or if you’re a baseball fan of the long-standing rivals like the Yankees and the Red Sox, this book series about rival teams and competition is a great and unique gift for a young loved one.

Author Sherri Graves Smith, a graduate from the University of Alabama and resident of OTP, was motivated to start this series after a rival fan from her alma mater poisoned and destroyed the trees at Toomer’s Corner in Auburn.

Aubie

Sherri is in her sixth year of receiving cancer treatment, and writing these stories has helped her to stay productive and make a difference. She wanted to create books that showed leadership, hope, and values for her daughter and others. Her books are all about being respectful, nice, considerate, and having good sportsmanship. I was honored to meet her and hear her inspiring story at a Junior League event in Marietta.

Sherri says that sports are a fantastic way to build self esteem and bring together a sense of community that crosses gender, race, age, economic, social and even religious lines. She wants to emphasize that you can win and lose with both grace and respect. She even has a sportsmanship pledge at the end of each book.
