Chicken and the Egg

Don’t let the name fool you, the Chicken and the Egg restaurant in west Cobb serves a variety of breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner food on the weekends. This upscale restaurant has a twist on modern classics, or as their tag line reads, “modern farmstead fare” such as country fried steak, house made pimento cheese, and down home chicken. The menu changes seasonally and they have a “peeps” menu for those under 12.

The name is derived on the concept of the circular cycle of life and the importance of sustainability and the impact we leave on this planet. Owner and head chef Marc Taft lives in west Cobb and wanted a place that brings you back to your grandmother’s table with southern comfort food.

When you walk into this restaurant located in the Burnt Hickory Shopping Plaza off of Whitlock Avenue, it is so much bigger than it appears on the outside. The reclaimed wood tables are perfect for this modern farmhouse décor. It’s an 8,550-square-foot restaurant that includes a large bar area for 60 guests, a main dining room that seats 130, an outdoor patio that seats 20, and a spacious private dining room that has A/V capabilities and seats up to 28 guests. This private area is great for those wedding and baby showers, office meetings, networking groups and more.

When ScoopOTP first went in, we assumed we were going to get some breakfast food. We had worked up an appetite shopping and scooping all the cute stores around the restaurant. To our surprise, blue plate specials (a meat with three sides) was a main menu component. If you’re from the south, just imagine everything your grandma used to cook, and that is what is on the menu. I enjoyed a cup of Vidalia onion soup and a mixed green salad with organic grilled chicken. On their facebook page, they recently featured choices such as Fried Carolina Catfish, Stewed Okra & Tomatoes and Hash Brown Casserole.

Cobb Life Magazine recently chose Chicken and the Egg as both best fried chicken and best bartender in their favorite’s edition. Check out this neighborhood bar and restaurant for lunch, dinner or brunch on the weekends. If you figure out which came first, the chicken or the egg, share the scoop!
