UPDATE, 5/30/18: Zunzi’s, a well known Savannah sandwich shop, location will open it’s Howell Mill location Wednesday, May 30th, according to Tomorrow’s News Today. Zunzi’s sandwiches will be made with bread from nearby H&F Bread Co. and for dessert, the shop will offer assorted cookies from Byrd’s, a Savannah staple since 1924. Additionally, the restaurant will be the only eatery in Atlanta to offer sodas, haymakers and agua frescas from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho-based Tractor Beverage Company.
Zunzi’s, A South African inspired take-out restaurant with a cult-like following in Savannah, has announced they will open a location in Atlanta. Tomorrow’s News Today reports that Zunzi’s will open in a 2300 square foot at 1971 Howell Mill Road by the end of the year.
The casual, walk up restaurant gained popularity in the past with a visit from the Food Network’s Adam Richman, when he named the Conquistador the best sandwich in the South and one of the top three in the nation. The Conquistador is a baked chicken breast served on French bread and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and Zunzi’s special sauce. They have also won Best of Savannah awards for that sandwich and take out.
Their menu is influenced by the rich South African, Swiss, Italian, and Dutch heritage of their founders, Johnny and Gabriella Debeer.
