Hollywood Comes to Cherokee County

Cherokee Office of Economic Development Scoop OTPBy now you’ve probably heard the buzz about all of the movies that will be filmed in Cherokee County. We were fortunate enough to talk to the Cherokee Office of Economic Development to learn the details!

Just last week, filming was completed in Downtown Canton for “The Have’s and the Have Not’s.” Filming went smoothly and the city was very easy to work with.

Currently, “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” is set to film in the Georgia National Cemetery. The movie stars Vin Diesel, Kristen Stewart, and Steve Martin. You may have seen some trailers in the old K Mart parking lot on Highway 5: those are serving as the home base for the film.

This summer, Michael Keaton will be staring in “The Founder” set to film in Downtown Canton. Groundwork is being laid for local businesses be involved with catering for the cast and crew.

And, most recently, Tom Cruise flew into the Cherokee County Regional Airport to visit Ball Ground and the surrounding region. The area was selected for the film “Mena” this summer.

According to Misti Martin, President of the Cherokee Office of Economic Development:

Our Camera Ready Committee, made of up representative from the cities, county, chamber of commerce, historical society, etc. met last week to discuss the progress and potential tourism impact. COED will be tracking the positive economic impact these feature films have on our community. Katie Bishop, project manager for COED, spearheads the Camera Ready program.

We know we are super excited about the potential for films to be made OTP, especially in Cherokee County. So if you are out and about, keep an eye open for a celebrity sighting! Stay tuned to Scoop OTP, as we will keep you updated with details as they become available.
