My husband took a half day off to spend some quality time with me! I wanted to drive up to Dahlonega to visit the wineries, but our time frame didn’t allow for that. So to get our wine fix, we visited CRÚ Food & Wine Bar in Avalon.
CRÚ was conceived as an exciting urban destination to experience and explore the complex (and sometimes confusing) world of wine and food pairings. They carry more than 300 wines! This is a great place for a date, night out, girl’s luncheon or more.
We each ordered a flight of wine. I tried their “spectacular sauvignon blanc” and he had their “pinot noir perfection.” Flights come with three glasses less than half-way full with a description for each glass, including the brand, region, and flavors. So now I knew for sure — I was tasting a hint of dark cherry!
Assuming it would be more about the wine tasting experience than eating, we were pleasantly surprised with the food, too! Try their stone-fired pizza, artisan cheese plates, ahi tartare, or filet mignon, to name a few.
Considering we buy our bottles of wine at the local grocery store, we weren’t tough critics. But I can say: I know when I have good wine and when I have bad — and this wine was great! This was a fun experience, and I would definitely go back for more taste tests.
CRÚ in Avalon has great patios both downstairs and upstairs — perfect for people watching! They also offer cool CRÚ member benefits for their wine club.
