A beloved farm in Cherokee County will be relocating and shutting down to the public. Cagle’s Dairy Farm has been a place for local school children to visit on field trips and seasonal activities for the past 16 years. Over the years, the farm has become a popular destination for families and teens during the fall season for its Haunted Barn, corn maze, pumpkin patch and hayrides. I know my teenagers are going to be very sad it’s gone for their fun fall activities!
The Cagle’s announced on their Facebook page their decision to relocate to the far northeast corner of Cherokee County, specifically in Ball Ground at Conn’s Creek. There, they will focus on their 70 acre property to farm, raise sheep and cattle. The farm will also be available for special events as the property has a historic barn, two pole barns, a beautiful creek and amazing views.
In an article from the Canton Patch, the Cagle’s stated several reasons for the move, but the primary reason being the lack of space to run the farm as needed due to recent development near the property. The Cagle’s have no hard feelings though, and look at this as one door closing and another one opening.
According to Erin Honea of the City of Holly Springs, the space that Cagle’s Dairy Farm occupies has been purchased by the city for $3.2 million dollars. City officials anticipate that the future park will include hard and soft surface walking and jogging trails, active recreation fields (such as baseball fields), and public access for fishing. The City will schedule public meetings to request input from residents regarding the specific types of amenities to be included in the new park during the design phase. This is another exciting announcement for the city of Holly Springs, who just last month announced plans for a major City Center development.
As one of the thousands of people who’s small children visited the farm years ago on a kindergarten field trip, we are sad to see it go, but know that the Cagle’s family deserves the best after its years of dedication to the community with its education and entertainment. And, we look forward to a beautiful new venue option for events.
