The 2016 K-12 rankings have just been released by Niche Rankings. This is the second year they have released these coveted rankings. Niche Rankings are the most comprehensive K-12 school and district rankings to date, combining rigorous analysis from our own data scientists and over 300,000 authentic school reviews from students and parents. They compiled these rankings for the Best High Schools and Districts rankings are based on a set of 8 different grades, each with their own set of factors, including academics, health & safety, diversity, survey responses, teacher quality, facility quality, extracurriculars & activities, and sports & fitness.
Their Academics grade alone is based on 9 different factors, including SAT/ACT composite scores, state assessment proficiency, AP enrollment, graduation rates, and survey responses, and more. Here is the National High School ranking too!
The only change from last year’s methodology is how Niche calculated our Teachers Grade: we added a salary index to normalize teacher salary based on the county-level household income. This allows us to reward school districts that value their teachers by paying them a salary close to or above the average county-level household income, even if the teacher salary is below the national average.
