Costco Woodstock Opening Date Announced

Update July 16 – Costco is opening August 9th. You can get your membership card now.  The new Costco in Woodstock, GA opens Thursday, August 9, at 8 a.m. per their grand opening Facebook page.

Be prepared to shop when the warehouse doors open! Sign up for a Costco membership at the Woodstock location at 113 Lincoln Street Woodstock, GA. New members who sign up for a Costco membership at the new location can receive a special offer.

Update September 2017:   The new Costco is expected to be open for business in June or July 2018.  Grading has begun for the Costco, gas station, single family homes, and retail slated for the 69-acre property according to the Cherokee Ledger-News.

Update June 8th, 2017: Brantley Day of the City of Woodstock said that Costco was issued their Land Disturbance Permit May 19th, and that as far as he knows, the company is on track to open Memorial Day: May 28th, 2018 according to Tomorrow’s News Today.  For residents of Woodstock and surrounding cities, the anticipation of the opening of this Costco has been teased now since March 2015 and many reach out to us asking if this store will be a reality. It appears we are one step closer now!

Update January 3, 2017: According to City Manager Jeff Moon, Costco filed their site plans the week before Christmas, but the city doesn’t have building plans yet.

Update September 29: After 3 months, there is still no sign of construction. A recent Cherokee Tribune Ledger News article says no permits have been filed. We are all curious to see if this Costco becomes a reality and the infrastructure is in place to support the traffic.

Update June 15: After many tabled votes, the Costco Warehouse is approved for Ridgewalk Parkway in Woodstock, GA.  According to the Cherokee Ledger, the Woodstock City Council on Monday unanimously to approve plans for a Costco and mixed-use development on Ridgewalk Parkway.

However, the 300 apartment units proposed with it were denied unanimously by the council.

The 69-acre development planned near The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta and Woodstock City Church imgresincludes a Costco Wholesale store with its own 18-pump gas station, 23 small-lot single family homes and undefined retail space.

Update: This vote has been tabled until May 9 and then tabled again until May 23 and June 13.  They need more information on the rest of the mixed use development.  This is a major decision/vote for the Ridgewalk Woodstock area and they want to collect all the information they can.  Since this is our local city, we are also anxiously awaiting this vote!

A mixed-use retail shopping center is looking at building on exit 9 of highway 575 in Woodstock, near the Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta.  Anchoring the “Ridgewalk Center” would be Costco Wholesale along with other Scoop OTP Ridgewalk Parkwayretail, restaurants, a multi-family residential building, a gas station and green space. The tentative location is on a proposed 69 acres across from Woodstock City Church on Ridgewalk Parkway, according to a Cherokee Tribune article from Friday, March 4th.

The vote is scheduled for the planning commission on April 7th and then the City Council on April 25th.

We have heard comments from citizens that range from very happy to rather concerned because of traffic implications. Some people also voiced disappointment that a Whole Foods or Trader Joes was not part of the proposal. We will let you know what the planning commission and City Commissions decide. Retail rival Sam’s Club recently opened in Woodstock, GA.
