Often in my exploring (which is code mainly for shopping and eating), I tend to stick to the heart of downtown areas. Primarily the cute, little businesses you tend to find “on the square.” You name the town — if they have a square, I have probably been to it. So when an acquaintance at Rethunk Junk suggested a few spots to scoop out in Marietta that were OFF the Square, I balked.
If you venture just down Whitaker Street, off the Marietta Square, you will come across the Burnt Hickory shopping center that has several great shops and two great restaurants. You can just park your car and walk to all of them!
The first store is The Whimsical Nest. Carrying mainly seasonal home décor, The Whimsical Nest also carries Spartina handbags and Lollia bath and body products. The store is loaded with pretties for your home, as well as great gifts.
Just down a few doors is Ivy and Twine. At first you might think this is more of what you just saw at Whimsical Nest, but it’s actually quite different. Ivy and Twine has a French flare, focusing more on antiques, reproductions, gift and garden items.
Just down from both of these stores is The Magnolia Room. The Magnolia Room strives to give you a feeling of old-time shopping, like at Rich’s in times past. The Magnolia Room carries household décor, apparel, gifts and antiques. The style of the store is broad, so there is sure to be something for almost everyone’s specific tastes.
All of this shopping should make you hungry, and you won’t have to leave the vicinity for that. The Chicken and the Egg serves American farmstead favorites, with a touch of modern flare to the recipes. Gabriel’s Restaurant serves down home southern dishes, but what really caught my eye was their amazing dessert collection.
So if you’re looking to for a little retail therapy with a great lunch (and dessert!) check out these Scoop Approved spots!
