There are certain things you can always find in my house on any given day. Some of these are: my kids’ school backpacks, a random mess of dance shoes or lacrosse strings, and a lit candle. I love the comforting smell and warmth of a burning candle. And if a candle is lit, that means I get to be home for the next foreseeable few hours — which is a rare treat these days.
Suzanne and I have done some Scooping in the Cumming/Suwanee area, and one business we kept hearing about was Juls Candles. We actually had popped into another local store that had an amazing smell radiating throughout, and sure enough, when asked what it was, the answer was Juls Candles! We were so intrigued by the look of her shop: a little farmhouse that had been transformed into a shop, and completely decorated in a whimsical way. You really can’t help but notice it from the street. We were greeted immediately by Juls. She was so welcoming! Right away she started giving us the tour of her store and promptly took us into her workshop. (Keep in mind, she had no idea who we are, or that we were interested in writing about her.) Her passion for what she creates is very evident.
Juls uses the highest quality essential oils and wax in her candles; they really are her labor of love. One of the unique things about her store is the variety. She makes many candles in a standard jar with her label wrapped around it, but she also uses all sorts of other containers for her candles. She re-purposes containers over and over, so it’s like a little treasure hunt when you are looking through all the candles to find the scent and container combo you want.
And the scents are just as unique as Juls herself: Sugar Daddy, Hot Tottie, and Black Tie are some of the most popular, but they are ALL good!
Some of her customers have gotten so attached to the candles that Juls has created a kit so that you can pour your own candles into your own containers at home. This makes it a little more cost efficient if you are a frequent burner. Juls also is very eager to work with any custom containers or scents.
If you enjoy candles, but especially if you love shopping local and meeting someone passionate about her work, stop by Juls Candles. And tell her Scoop sent you!
Juls Candles is located at 1577 James Burgess Road, Suwanee, GA.
