When a building has had many different restaurants over a course of a few short years, it tends to fall off my radar. But we were intrigued by the billboard about Hacienda Vieja making fresh guacamole at the table — that seems like a very ITP thing to do, like at Atlantic Station’s Rosa Mexicana. So we scheduled a lunch meeting there to see what the Scoop was about.
Serving authentic Mexican food, the Dominguez brothers have been in the restaurant business since 2010 starting in Macon, Ga and now at Hacienda Vieja in Woodstock. They use only the freshest ingredients, and take pride in their handmade traditional quality cuisine. Their restaurant is large, with a bar area, an outdoor patio, and both booths and tables for indoor seating.
Of course, we started by ordering the guacamole, but we made a novice mistake and ordered the small. Only the largeis made at your table, so that’s Scoop Tip #1! The guacamole we had was delicious though, and I look forward to going back for the large. Also, two types of salsas were presented at our table, which was a nice and unique touch.
They have a great priced lunch menu with a large variety of traditional cuisine and some interesting mexican cuisine choices like Hawaiian Pineapple, which is fresh pineapple piled with tilapia, shrimp, crabmeat, bell pepper, onions, cheese and citrus mayonnaise topped with tiger shrimp and served with rice and a house salad.
Another intriguing selection is their Molcajete, a volcano rock bowl with grilled steak, chicken, Mexican sausage, Mexican cheese, grilled onions, rice, lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole and tortillas. Our Scoop Tip #2 is that we highly enjoyed the fish tacos and pinto beans, but we’re pretty sure you can’t go wrong no matter what you choose.
With 10 large TV screens, live music on weekends, and Texas Margaritas for $20 on Friday nights, Hacienda Vieja has something for everyone. They even serve chicken wings!
The live music is an interesting take at a Mexican restaurant; when we were there, they featured some rock and roll as opposed to the traditional sounds of Mexico. They recently had The Woody’s play as well, so our Scoop Tip #3 is to watch their live music calendar on Facebook and head to Hacienda Vieja soon to enjoy an evening out!
