The Fickle Pickle – It’s Dill-ish!

39989_151307301551430_5714641_n About eight years ago, a friend who grew up in Roswell said, “We have to go eat at the Fickle Pickle. It’s a Roswell tradition!” A restaurant that rhymes — I am in!

Now, in 2014 it has lasted the test of time since opening in 2003. This summer they expanded by opening a breakfast and dessert addition called Sugar Shack in the Back.

So what came first, the Fickle or the Pickle? The story is that owner/proprietor Andy Badgett had an ultra fine dining establishment called Asher. One day, he decided to turn it into a southern cafe and deli.

fickle-pickleIn keeping with the Southern traditions, the location sets the stage in an 1890 Victorian house. There are several small rooms that you might get seated in. You order at the counter, but the staff is quick to refill your drink or help you with anything you need. Did I mention they have a Fried Green Tomato sandwich and peach tea? How’s that for Southern! They have an extensive menu with salads, pressed paninis, speciality sandwiches and more.

Once I find something I like on a menu (if you follow my Scoop posts – you know this) I don’t deviate. I love their chicken salad (which has hazelnuts and dried cherries) and their famous fried Cajun pickles. Not the healthiest choice, but how can you not indulge on pickles at the Fickle Pickle! They offer dill, bread & butter, and Cajun, and all are made from scratch. Maybe it’s the creole rémoulade sauce that keeps me coming back from more. It’s addictive!

We also recently enjoyed the signature Bagel Bombs and Counter Culture Coffee from Sugar Shack in the Back. We need to go back and Scoop the sweets another time!

The only setback with this restaurant is the parking is crazy at lunch time because the food is so good — it is always packed. Last time we ate there, the line was out the door! So be sure to get there early.

Located at 1085 Canton Street in Roswell. Scoop Tip: Walk across the street when you’re done eating and shop at the Southern Style. It’s a cute store that will soon be Scoop approved!
