The iconic gift store in Roswell, The Chandlery, is closing. We don’t normally report closings, but since this is due to retirement and not the store’s success, we know their fans will want to visit them during their retirement sale. I have bought numerous gifts at the Chandlery: their excellent selection, customer service, and wrapping made it such a delight to support this independent store.
The store announced the closing on their Facebook Page October 27:
The Johnson Family is retiring from retail after almost 40 years. Our retirement sale starts today at 9:30 and will continue thru the end of the year. All merchandise is on sale. When you visit us, please check out the prize desk in the front door. You can enter to earn prizes dollars that will go to ‘winning’ the 10 Canton Street focused prizes in honor of the street that supported the Chandlery.
The Historic Roswell Georgia Facebook page said that Mary Anne and Jim Johnson opened the Chandlery in 1977 in a 400 square foot clapboard building at the Roswell Square on S. Atlanta Street. In 1990 the Chandlery moved to 950 Canton Street and provided French linens, Christmas decor, fine china, tabletop, children’s gifts, local artists and much more.
We wish the owners luck in their future endeavors, and we look forward to welcoming the next business to take over that prime Roswell retail space.
