The first-ever Small Business Saturday took place on Nov 27, 2010. It encouraged people across the country to support small, local businesses. We love to support local independent retail and restaurants all across the suburbs of Atlanta. In 2013, 1,450 local retailers signed up. In 2014, an estimated 14.3 Billion was spent by 88 million people.
American Express has led the marketing campaign and championed for these small local businesses. They used to offer a $10 credit back (up to $30) to American Express cardholders for shopping at approved small businesses, but that program isn’t in effect for 2015.
Many small businesses offer specials not only on Black Friday, but also on Saturday.
I love this Facebook post from Sis & Moon:
Owning a small business is not about being rich. For most it’s about doing what you love, hard work, and putting food on the table. When you create something that has your passion attached to it…It becomes magic. Wherever you may be. During this holiday season …Remember to shop small.
Thank you for supporting your local city, retail stores and restaurants. Many of them are participating in our 12 Days of Christmas giveaways too!
