Osteria Mattone: Where Roswell Meets Rome

pix_home_new_02It’s not hard to find a great place to eat in Downtown Roswell. So a few weeks ago, when my husband and I were celebrating our anniversary, we decided to try Osteria Mattone. I had been hearing about this new place owned by the same people as Table & Main, so why not use our anniversary as an excuse to go.

Osteria Mattone is the second restaurant from Ryan Pernice. His first eatery, Table & Main (also in Downtown Roswell), is already established as a must-try restaurant in OTP and Atlanta. Osteria Mattone is Italian with a Roman flare.

The restaurant has a huge outdoor seating area that is fun for people-watching while enjoying a glass of wine on a weekend night. We were planning on sitting and eating a lot though, and it was July, so we opted to dine in the Trattoria.

Now, when you’re out sans children and celebrating, you are happy to sit back, relax and slowly peruse the menu. So we stated our “no rush” policy to our server right away. I am sure that all of the servers are wonderful, but ours was superb. As much as I think I understand Italian food, I apparently really do not (which strengthens my argument that a trip to Italy would be beneficial, but that is another topic). Our server explained all of it to us in detail. He was over-the-top helpful, and this was before we even mentioned it was our anniversary.

Even though we were trying to be different, my husband and I both ordered our favorite Italian dishes: pasta carbonara for me, and lamb chops for him. Both were delicious and authentic.

We decided to hold off and not do dessert, since we were already satisfied, but our server wouldn’t hear of it. We got a complimentary dessert for our anniversary; salted caramel bread pudding. Yes, you read that right. It was heavenly. I’m still not quite over it.
