Northwest Corridor Express Lanes To Open

It’s finally time — do you have your Peach Pass? Gov. Nathan Deal has announced the Northwest Corridor Express Lanes will open to southbound traffic mid-morning on Saturday, September 8. The project adds approximately 30 miles of express lanes along I-75 from Akers Mill Road to Hickory Grove Road, and along I-575 from I-75 to Sixes Road. The first 14 days of operation will be free for motorists with registered Peach Passes.

GDOT built the lanes and will deploy teams of HERO units to keep lanes open and then reverse them at the given times each day hopefully reliving one of the biggest complaints of living OTP — the traffic! It’s safe to say that everyone who lives anywhere near where this construction has been taking place is anxious to see the results.

Months of incident management training has prepared local first response teams to quickly respond to possible emergencies in the Express Lanes.
