A company co-owned by music icon Jimmy Buffett and Safe Harbor Development of Knoxville, Tenn., are teaming up to take over operations of LanierWorld — which includes the beach and water park — and manage special events at the 1,500-acre resort according to the Gainvesville times.
We had heard rumors on some lake Facebook group pages, but the Lake Lanier Islands Development Authority voted officially on Tuesday morning to sublease the operations to Safe Harbor and Margaritaville Holdings. As a long time Jimmy Buffet fan, I am excited to see what this company does with the property. You may have also heard that Buffett is creating Margaritaville inspired senior living resorts. It appears he isn’t spending his time looking for the lost shaker of salt anymore!
Darby Campbell, Safe Harbor owner and president, said the companies’ goal is to take the resort and enhance it.
Our goal is to make Lanier Islands a year-round resort, he said.
