WSB TV is reporting that the Swedish furniture store, IKEA, the world’s largest furniture retailer, will be opening a location in Marietta.
It is reported that IKEA has purchased 28 acres of land from the city of Marietta in the new Franklin Gateway development. The Franklin Gateway — previously Franklin Road — was renamed in 2016 and is being redeveloped. Currently, it is the home to the Atlanta United soccer team’s training facility.
Immediate details were not available about the number of jobs that will come with the store or a timeline for construction. “The city has worked very diligently on the redevelopment of the Franklin corridor and IKEA would like to be part of that redevelopment,” said Jim Anastos, a representative for the company. It will no doubt be a welcome addition to OTP dwellers looking to furnish homes and apartments.
