Brad Paisley – Country Megaticket
Aug 23 @ 7:30 pm – 11:30 pm

Within a year of the release of Wheelhouse, Paisley was back with a new single, “River Bank,” which hit number 12 on the country chart. Its accompanying album, Moonshine in the Trunk, was solidly a country record, and featured duets with Carrie Underwood and Emmylou Harris. It became his eighth straight album to top the country chart, and reached number two on the pop chart. The album’s second single, “Perfect Storm,” made it to four, but the subsequent “Crushin’ It” and “Country Nation” didn’t crack the country Top Ten. In the summer of 2016, Paisley returned with “Without a Fight,” a duet with Demi Lovato that was intended as a teaser for his 11th album. When Love and War appeared in April 2017, preceded by the Top Ten single “Today,” “Without a Fight” wasn’t on the record but duets with Mick Jagger and John Fogerty were. The album topped the country chart and peaked at 13 on the Billboard 200. In 2018, Paisley joined a stacked roster of artists for King of the Road, a tribute to Roger Miller.

The Curtis Lundy Quartet featuring Legendary Saxophonist Bobby Watson
Aug 23 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

A saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator, Bobby Watson grew up in Kansas City, Kan. He trained formally at the University of Miami, a school with a distinguished and well-respected jazz program. After graduating, he proceeded to earn his “doctorate” – on the bandstand – as musical director of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. The group, created in 1955 by late legendary drummer who died in 1990, showcased a rotating cast of players, many who, like Watson, would go on to have substantial careers as bandleaders in their own right. The Jazz Messengers – frequently referred to as the “University of Blakey” – served as the ultimate “postgraduate school” for ambitious young players.
After completing a four-year-plus Jazz Messengers tenure (1977-1981) that incorporated more than a dozen recordings – the most of any of the great Jazz Messengers, the gifted Watson became a much-sought after musician, working along the way with a potpourri of notable artists – peers, elder statesmen and colleagues all — including, but not limited to: drummers Max Roach and Louis Hayes, fellow saxophonists George Coleman and a younger Branford Marsalis, celebrated multi-instrumentalist Sam Rivers and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis (who joined the Jazz Messengers at least in part at the suggestion of Watson). In addition to working with a variety of instrumentalists, Watson served in a supporting role for a number of distinguished and stylistically varied vocalists including: Joe Williams, Dianne Reeves, Lou Rawls, Betty Carter and Carmen Lundy.
Later, in association with bassist Curtis Lundy and drummer Victor Lewis, Watson launched the first edition of Horizon, an acoustic quintet modeled in many ways after the Jazz Messengers but one with its own distinct slightly more modern twist. Among the groups’ other talented members were pianist Ed Simon, trumpeter TereIl Stafford and bassist Essiet Okon Essiet. Clearly, by all critical accounts, Horizon, which still performs together on special occasions, is now considered as one of the preeminent small groups of the mid-1980s to mid-1990s and even into the 2000s. The group recorded several highly acclaimed titles for the Blue Note and Columbia record labels including Post-Motown Bop (Blue Note) and Midwest Shuffle, Live! (Columbia); the latter is a compendium that captured the group in concert at a number of locations in 1993.
Showtimes: 7:30pm and 9:30pm Admission: $34.

“Who doesn’t love Tom Petty?” bassist Darryell Stone asked himself one day while listening to the radio. There was only one answer he could imagine, “Nobody.” Testing his hypothesis, Stone polled friends, family and fellow musicians how they felt about Petty. The result was always the same. Everyone loves Tom Petty.
One of these fellow musicians just happened to be Tom Petty’s doppelganger, guitarist and lead vocalist Jonathan Guthrie. Guthrie was an avid fan and had always fantasized about being a Heartbreaker. As two seasoned musicians and Tom Petty fans there was really only one thing for them to do. Form a tribute band.
It wasn’t hard for Stone and Guthrie to find skilled musicians excited about playing in a Tom Petty tribute band. Drummer Steve Lucas, formerly of Feverdog and a band mate of Stone’s local band, Theatrix, quickly signed on. Lucas brought with him his M-80s band mate Glenn Freeman. Freeman, who boasts of seeing multiple Petty concerts in the 80s, brought an instrumental cornucopia to the group with keyboards, harmonica, guitar and backing vocals. Lead guitarist Curt Granger rounded out the lineup. With 30 years experience in Birmingham’s local music scene, Granger has played in such circuit bands as Pyrate, Scream Sophie and his own solo project as well as creating a line of world-renowned boutique amplifiers.
Equipped with decades of experience and a passion for Tom Petty’s magic way with songs, The Wildflowers bring music lovers of all stripes what they crave. More Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

Alpharetta’s Music at Twilight featuring Sylvia Rose Novak
Aug 23 @ 8:30 pm – 10:30 pm

Sylvia Rose Novak has been called “a musician in a class all her own”. Music has always been a facet of her life, so much so that her parents remember that she started to sing before she could talk.
Raised on a steady diet of folk staples including Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Joan Baez [curtesy of her mother] and classic country like Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Eddy Arnold [from her father] Novak grew up surrounded by music.
Novak excelled at any instrument put in front of her, whether it was piano in her early years, trombone in middle school and high school bands or the cheap red Silvertone bass that her father bought her at age 12. Since then, Novak has mastered a multitude of instruments including banjo, pedal steel, mandolin, and violin.
